UNISTRA to host the Journée Européenne de l’Écologie Industrielle

A key event for students and future changemakers interested in Industrial Symbiosis, sustainability and innovation.

This autumn, the University of Strasbourg (UNISTRA) is set to turn the spotlight on Industrial Symbiosis with the Journée Européenne de l’Écologie Industrielle, an event that will gather stakeholders from across Europe who are shaping the future of sustainable industry.

With the ecological transition firmly on Europe’s agenda, this event is a timely response to the growing demand for practical, collaborative solutions and to help reshape industrial production and consumption. The initiative offers an ideal platform to elevate and promote the INSET project and its toolkit for Industrial Symbiosis (IS).

Set to happen on the 25th of November 2025, the Journée Européenne de l’Écologie Industrielle will serve as a launchpad for strategic dialogue between key actors such as business leaders, researchers, public authorities, civil society representatives and the students, the talents of tomorrow, who are the main audience of this event. It will showcase how IS is no longer a theoretical concept but a fast-developing practice that creates a measurable impact across European regions.

Participants will be able to engage in a rich program of thematic roundtables, case study presentations, and afterwork networking. Students will be able to discover the green roles and jobs of tomorrow. The day will also provide opportunities to present regional IS success stories, paving the way for cross-border collaborations and knowledge transfer.

As one of the featured initiatives during this event, the INSET project will take center stage as a real-world example of how IS tools can be mobilized to train professionals, improve resource efficiency, and build resilient industrial ecosystems. The INSET team will present their toolkit, among which training courses developed as part of the project are featured: one tailored for IS Planners, and the other for IS Project Managers; highlighting how these roles respond to the evolving needs of industry and the circular economy.

The event’s timing couldn’t be better: it aligns with the INSET promotional campaign running across Europe from September to November 2025. UNISTRA and its partners are helping to scale INSET’s impact and strengthen its reach within both academic and industrial spheres.

More than a regional gathering, the Journée Européenne de l’Écologie Industrielle aims to act as a catalyst for European-wide cooperation. It reflects the growing recognition that the industrial transition must be inclusive, systemic, and competence driven. Events like this one demonstrate how universities, industries, and public bodies can align their efforts to co-develop solutions that are both economically viable and environmentally responsible.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional, a policymaker, or just beginning to explore how sustainability applies to industrial contexts, the Journée Européenne de l’Écologie Industrielle offers a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and act. You might think your area of study or work is unrelated, but in wide changes like such, nothing is really unrelated. Come and listen to the guests’ testimonies! It is completely free and all are welcome. UNISTRA invites you to take part in this collective movement to share your insights, discover practical tools, and become part of a European network that’s redefining how we produce, collaborate, and grow. Secure your spot! Be a part of the change!

Stay tuned for the full program release in the coming weeks. Let’s meet in Strasbourg and shape the future of industrial symbiosis together!
