Navigating Industrial Symbiosis: the INSET toolkit promotional roadmap

Get ready to transform your business! INSET workshops are coming!

After two years of intense work dedicated to developing the INSET toolkit, the countdown to share this experience has officially started! Between September and November 2025, something exciting is happening across Europe that could completely change how we think about industrial processes. The INSET project is launching its promotional workshop campaign and, trust us, you don’t want to miss this opportunity.

Picture this: you walk into a space with like-minded professionals, passionate about making industry more sustainable and minimizing waste and costs for managing business waste, whether it’s scrap materials, byproducts, wastewater, and other resources that could have value for other industrial processes near your facilities. But it’s especially for those who are more skeptical about the convenience of the green economy that these workshops are dedicated: introducing the logic of business process efficiency, sharing specific cases with evidence of key performance indicator variations following industrial symbiosis implementation.

This is exactly the goal of these intensive six-hour workshops. We’re talking about real change, the kind that comes from deep understanding of industrial symbiosis and having the necessary tools to implement it in your own workplace.

So what’s actually waiting for you? Well, we’re not just throwing around fancy concepts hoping someone picks them up. The INSET team has developed two hybrid training courses, one dedicated to planning functions, the other to managing Industrial Symbiosis pathways. The courses cover a range of crucial topics for understanding how to operate in the sector, from theoretical foundations of industrial symbiosis to practical applications. You’ll discover how companies can collaborate, sharing resources and byproducts in ways that benefit everyone while protecting the environment.

But here’s where it gets really interesting. There’s also the INSET mobile app that lets you explore different IS scenarios through specialized training pathways. Think of it as your pocket-sized mentor that helps you understand complex industrial relationships through real examples and interactive learning experiences.

The workshops also bring together an incredible mix of people. We’re talking about stakeholders who contribute to defining policies for the sustainability of production and consumption systems, university researchers pushing the boundaries of sustainability science, and NGO representatives who push toward business and consumption models suitable for relaunching competitiveness in Europe. It’s the perfect storm of expertise and passion.

During these sessions, you’ll dive deep into a collection of best practices that showcase successful industrial symbiosis implementations from around the world. These aren’t theoretical case studies gathering dust on a shelf. These are real transformation stories, complete with challenges, solutions, and results that matter to practitioners like you.

The “IS networking handbook” is another game-changer. It’s packed with practical activities and strategies for identifying those crucial synergies that can transform entire industrial ecosystems. You’ll learn to spot opportunities that others miss and turn them into collaborative advantages.

Each workshop is carefully structured to maximize your learning experience. The first sessions focus on presentations and demonstrations, while the next phase is dedicated to hands-on practice with interactive exercises, group discussions, and role-playing scenarios based on real INSET tools and methodologies.
